How to make the best use of travelling time

"My father gave me some great advice the day I became sixteen and received my driver’s license. Climbing into the passenger side of the car, he placed a book in my glove compartment and said, ‘Son, never be in a car without a book. Whenever you are delayed in traffic you can pull out this book and read.’ Today my car also contains many tapes for me to listen to and a note pad to jot down thoughts. My car phone also allows me to make calls to people on the way to and from work.

Recently while driving I made several calls and saved hours of office time. Many times I drive staff to and from work with me; we discuss business and develop a closer relationship. I estimate that the average person could achieve eight additional hours of personal growth and work each week by using driving time wisely."

Take advantage of the time you have travelling. Former US President Herbert Hoover wrote a book during the time he spent waiting in railroad stations. Noel Coward wrote his popular song, ‘I’ll See You Again’, while caught in traffic.

3. Ask yourself

How many hours do you spend in travelling to and from work each day - each week - each month? Add them up. And how many hours each week do you spend travelling to meetings? How do you usually spend this time? You may be surprised at how extravagantly you’re currently using this valuable time. …
