How to introduce new technology
1. Here's an idea
When you want to update the technology in your organisation (or want to introduce any new concept or product, for that matter), ask the biggest ‘Luddite’ on staff - the person most resistant to the technology or idea - to be a member of the decision-making team.
Why? Because that person will play devil’s advocate and ask questions that people in love with the technology may not ask. On top of that, if you can sell this person on the advantages of the new technology, you eliminate a lot of the behind-the-scenes griping from the start.
2. Smile & ponder
‘What are we going to do?’ said Baby Tiger to Mama Tiger in the jungle. ‘Here comes a hunter, and he has five rifles, three special sighting scopes, and the latest devices to allow him to see in the dark!’
‘Hush!’ answered Mama Tiger and she taught her cub how to sneak up from behind and pounce.
The hunter was never heard of again.
All of which goes to prove that technology may be fine, but it will never be a substitute for a good basic education.
3. Quotable quote
"Technology planning is not an isolated activity, but needs to be viewed in the context of the entire organisation. Planning is a people process which needs to involve the stakeholders…
And just because technology can be used for an activity doesn't mean it should be used or even provides the best solution." …
